Outfit Post: Check Mate

DSCN0522 DSCN0536DSCN0543

I haven’t blogged an outfit post in forever so of course I picked a FREEZING day to stand around and take a few snaps.  My giant black cardigan with REMOVABLE fur (love that feature) from River Island keeps me snug and doubles up as a scarf during these cold days. I bought this check playsuit about two years ago and recently found it stashed in my sisters wardrobe. Really like the peter pan collar  detail and the mash of colours. Check has been seen from New York to Milan at their fashion weeks over the last month so I’ll be incorporating this piece into my wardrobe a bit more by means of layering.

A also applied some of my new YSL pink lipstick that I was gifted recently. The colour pigment is strong and longlasting, smooth to apply and smells delicious.

Guess & I

I’ve never been bitten by the Guess bug. I associated it for a long time as a sign you had been to America if you owned a Guess bag. J1 students would return from their summers in Cape Cod with Guess buckled bags hanging from their arms. Yummy Mummy’s who flew to New York to shop in Macy’s sported them in the front of their trolleys at the supermarket. Yet I never wanted one. The big G buckle never attracted me and those handbags wouldn’t fit my life in them.

Then, for my 21st birthday, my friends returned from their J1 (San Diego FYI) with a hot pink Guess wallet for me. And I loved it. Small and compact, no big gaudy G sign or buckle to be seen. It was shiny and pretty and I slotted my cards and cash in with great enthusiasm. But it wasn’t to be, and after four months I lost it on a night out.

That was the last Guess item I owned; until last summer. I’m a big black boot fan. Buckles, studs, straps, Velcro straps, gold tap top… gimme them all. I’m currently eyeing up a pair of Kurt Geiger’s and I’ve decided they will be mine by the end of the week. So when I laid my eyes upon a studded thick black boot last summer whilst browsing at TJ Maxx for wall fixtures to decorate my room with, I was surprised yet happy that they were in fact Guess and were a steal at $40! (Good ole’ TJ Maxx. TK Maxx equivalent in Ireland.) They are the sturdiest black boot I have ever owned. They’re comfy and hard wearing, water never creeps in and there’s no G buckle anywhere to be seen (a small GUESS inscription on one of the clasps instead). I’ve had them over the half year mark now and they’re scuffed and beaten from all the wear I’ve given them. But I like that look. I’ve a feeling they’re gonna stay a good while with me yet. They’re that kind of boot friend. Guess & I weren’t friends at first, but we’re together for the long haul now.

Outfit Wish

Outfit Wish
These are a few pieces that have been twirling around my head of late that will not leave. I spotted those Valentino shoes in Dublin last week in Brown Thomas and I’m seriously considering robbing a bank to satisfy my craving. T bar shoes were seen stomping around New York and Milan fashion weeks earlier this month and these tick the box. Never mind the delicious hot pink hue that immediately catches your eye or the studded embellishment that would cradle and hug your foot. I then shimmeyed on over to BT2 where I spotted the cobalt blue (big colour this season) faced Michael Kors watch and love it due it not being a plain ole’ gold watch that you seen on dozens of women as it has that colour kick. Now that spring is here, I need to pump some colour back in my drab (black) Winter wardrobe which explains the sunny yellow coat from Zara with zip detail. You couldn’t have a bad day in that baby, it would scream HAPPY everytime is swooshed as you walked. And yes, there’s a pair of black boots slotted in above because well, you can never give up on a good thing. They’re Kurt Geiger and have that padded scuba front detail which I’m seeing alot of at the minute and really likingl. Then there’s the complimentary colour twins: Gold and White. Ultimately chic, white is a key colour for 2014 and gold is it’s party partner. Throw in a fiery orange Marc Jacobs wallet and an ivy green Alice + Olivia bag (I’m definitely dreaming), finishing off your look with black cheery lipstick because well, it wouldn’t be a Róisín outfit without some darkness.
